2002 VOLKSWAGEN GOLF GTI 25TH ANNIVERSARY EDITION

Time for another installment of “All the niche facts about German car facts that almost nobody will know.” We all, of course, know the 2002 Volkswagen GTI 337 Edition that was sold in the US to celebrate 25 years of GTI, just by a year later to be literally topped up by the GTI 20th Anniversary Edition to celebrate 20 years of GTI GTI in the USA. What was interesting about the 337 Edition was that all 1,500 in the US and all 250 in Canada were only offered in a single color: Reflex Silver Metallic.

However, the 337 was itself a reaction to a special model in Europe called the 25th Anniversary Edition, because that was for Europe and not the US. In addition, Europa had two other color options to choose from, in addition to Reflex Silver with Tornado Red (clearcoat peel-off at no extra cost) and today's Diamond Black. Taking this a step further, all UK right-hand drive cars had a special plaque which numbered each car individually, but for some reason they put the plaque on the fuse box cover, which is only visible when the door is open. I wish I would make that up.
